Harvesting Contracts

In order to start the harvesting work in the forest a "Harvesting Plan" is prepared by the concerned Manager Forest Operations with special reference to the following:-

• Form forest operation lots of the marked trees, keeping in view the total volume marked in the area of a compartment, the contiguity of the compartments, the distance from the main road and other relevant factors.
• Most preferably conversion into logs or scants or both and the estimated outturn of timber.
• Period of harvesting is worked out having in view the quantum of marked volume, slack season in high hills forests and fire in Chir forest etc, access to forest through road network, installation of cable crane is worked out before hand.

Harvesting Contracts

Forest operations are carried out by the registered work contractors of FDC which are registered with FDC. Works are advertised in leading news papers through Information Department Govt. of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa & tenders called for the harvesting/extraction of timber. Contracts are scrutinized and approved as per rules in favour of lower reasonable tender and agreement signed accordingly.

• The marked trees are accordingly felled and converted into logs/Scants duly affixed with FDC property which are then transported to designated roadside depots through various means like Skidding, Pathru sliding, floating, manual extraction, animal transportation and mechanical transportation (cable cranes).
• After receipt of timber at roadside depot, the Forest Department issues transport pass on the request of FDC and the timber is transported to timber markets of the Corporation located at Chakdara (Lower Dir) and Goharabad (District Abbottabad) for sale through open auctions. The timber is checked at Forest Check Posts and record maintained in order to monitor the transportation of timber.
